The long island animal shelter welcomes 34 rescue dogs displaced by Hurricane Maria

On Saturday October 7th, Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) held their annual “Ties & Tails” cocktail party, with part of the funds received from the event have aided SASF in taking in 34 rescue dogs from Puerto Rico who were displaced by Hurricane Maria.

Although the hurricanes have passed, there is a long road to recovery ahead. This recovery includes the many dog shelters that were either demolished in the hurricane or now have limited resources. SASF has gone above and beyond their call of duty by reaching out to shelters in Puerto Rico and organizing the flight for the rescue dogs to arrive safely to Long Island on Sunday, October 10th.

These 34 dogs now have the chance to find their forever homes. Like Paula, a 6 year old basset hound mix who loves to cuddle. Or Pucho, a 6 month old jack russell terrier mix puppy who loves to play and meet new people. Or Siri, a 1 year old chihuahua who may seem introverted at first, but quickly becomes a social butterfly.

SASF pioneers for the betterment of dogs and we are proud to support them in their tireless efforts, by sponsoring their silent auction at the Ties & Tails event. These dogs have traveled far to meet you! And with a range of puppies to adult dogs, you’ll be able to find just the right furry companion. You can check out their website or donate online.
